After spending most of my life trying to gain weight, I now find myself in a dilemma. I'm too short.
My once 5' 7 3/4" frame has shrunk. At the same time, my fondness for chocolate chip cookies and lots of BBQ's and graduation parties, packed on an additional 12 pounds.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out these two events worked against each other. While my weight is ideal for a statuesque woman, it doesn't work for someone stretching for 5' 6".
So, after much weeping and teeth-gnashing, I've cut back on my junk food consumption. A friend, who's a lifetime member of Weight Watchers, gave me some tips on what foods to eat. I've also used my Swagbucks Search Engine to find websites on resurrecting metabolism.
The good news: I've lost three pounds. The bad news: It took three weeks, and I still have 15 pounds to reach my goal.
NEWSFLASH: Since writing this post, I've lost an additional five pounds. Yay!
I'll be sharing my progress in future posts of what works and what doesn't work. Do you have any weight loss tips?

Susan:
A weight loss of 2 pounds a week is ideal. When a person first starts to lose weight, the first loss is mostly water.
A friend's daughter did Weight Watchers, then worked at one of the lecture sites. She has kept her weight off even after several years.
I just found your blog off of Cindy Wilson's blog, and I enjoy your thoughts. Great job on the weight loss.
Hi Quiet Spirit -
Slow, but steady, weight loss is the way to go. My friend has also had much success with Weight Watchers also. :)
I'm doing it on my own, trying to find a nutritious, workable method. I can't see myself weighing every morsel of food.
Blessings,
Susan
Hi Ryan and Melanie -
Welcome to my blog! Thanks for becoming a Follower. :)
Cindy's been a blogging friend for over a year now. I also have a blog for writers and readers called, "Christian Writer/Reader Connection." I've got a giveaway for the book, "No Greater Love," by Kathi Macias going on right now. It's my Wednesday post, and the deadline is Saturday, 9/25, at midnight.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Thanks Susan for stopping by my blog. If you want to read our blog you can sign up in reader (like google reader). If you prefer to have it on your blogger dashboard, I believe you can still follow it by clicking on our picture (on your follower list) and it should work.
I'll check out your other blog as well when I get a moment. Thanks for telling me about the giveaway.
Many blessings to you!
Good for you, my dear!!!
My best advice is to exercise, never eat as much as you want, and quit worrying about it. Our society is too hung up on weight and looks.
I love you just the way you are. And so does the Lord.
Shrinkage and weight gain seem to be plagues that trail we aging types.
Like you, I was fairly lean most of my life. Then, pound-by-pound, beginning at about age 38, the scales became my enemy. And I wasn't even eating more! I think it was a gradual shift in metabolism.
I'm only a few pounds from where I want to be, but those few pounds mock me. I mock right back.
Blessings,
Kathleen
Wishing you much success, bless you.
Hi Melanie -
Thanks for the info. I'll do my best to get over there and sign up in Google reader. Not sure how that works. :)
Blessings,
Susan
Hi Jen -
I've increased my workouts to four times per week, cut way back on the chocolate chip cookies (boohoo), and adjusted my food intake.
I'm encouraged by the results so far. I have 10 pounds to go to reach my goal.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Hi Kathleen -
I'm one pound shy of being half way to my goal. I only weigh myself once a week on a digital scale.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Hi Denise -
Thank you, and welcome!
Blessings,
Susan :)
Congrats on losing the weight! This is always easier said than done. My tip? Increase activity level or change up the one you have. I know you said you were exercising more. Good for you!
Blessings,
Karen
Hi Karen -
Thanks! I went to Wendy's today for lunch. I get their smallest burger, but I did have french fries. Who can resist french fries?
I've been extra careful the remainder of the day.
Blessings,
Susan :)
That you are moving in the right direction is excellent! I have a sweet tooth too, but know creating a walking routine will help. I just have to do it. Denying myself foods doesn't work for me but when I excercise I start to crave the right foods.
Yay, Susan!! That is awesome:)
Hi "Susie". I'm attacking a few inches rather than pounds. My weight remains stable and yet the abs continue to expand. When I do tip the scale, however, reducing the carb intake does it for me. Congrats to you though. Such progress! Blessings, Penny
I've always wondered how the world looks to someone taller than me (5'5"). I worry that tall people will see the dust that's beyond my reach, like on the top of the refrigerator.
Congrats on the weight loss, Susan ;-)
